Mother Winter

When the weather is cold and the sky dark and clear, my thoughts turn to the goddess associated with death, rebirth and dreams, Mother Winter. Commonly depicted in two forms; she appears as either a beautiful maiden, white as snow like her name, or as an elderly and haggard crone.  She has many names in cultures throughout the world, which I will discuss in further posts. Her origins Trace back to the Stone age. But nowadays, the season is commonly associated with St Nick, Father winter and Jack Frost. We can do better than that.

Over time, I have been drawn to the spirit of Mother Winter repeatedly, and here I am portraying Hans Christian Andersen’s Snow Queen. Can you feel the chill while underneath, Spring awaits?  Which is fitting since I was playing her in Sunny tropical Florida.
